Books

 

  1. The holding of the county library exceeded 508 thousand items in 2010. The holding includes materials inherited from the Miskolc City Library in 1952 as well as the books inherited from Miskolc Public Library and the Borsod-Miskolc Museum.  The more-than-hundred-year-old holding of the Miskolc PublicLibrary is made up of books of special value. The minor part of them can be found in the Collection of Rare Books, and the major part of them in the warehouse. Being historical documents, most of them are available for in-site use only. The most valuable rare books serve as sources for scientific resarch. 

  1. After registration, any part of the collection is available for in-site use, or, provided that you observe copyrights, you may have made  a photocopy or a digital copy of any materials. Valuable historical materials, rare books and books in poor condition may not removed from the library and are forbidden to be photocopied.  

  1. Books can be found in different departments, organized by topics and conditions of circulation. 

Reference books found in the second-floor reference colleciton are available for in-site use or they may be loaned overnight for a deposit.

Materials placed on the open shelves in the first and second floors may be loaned for a three-week period by registered patrons with a library card, under the conidtions detailed in Rules for Use. 

Bestsellers, warehouse books, materials in EU Colleciton and Gateway U.K. Colleciton may be loand for a one-week period. 

 

a) Browsing Shelves in the Ground Floor

You can find returned books here which our readers like to browse. These are bestsellers the topics of which vary from science fiction, crime story  and adventure story to war novel and love story. As a registered member, you may loan them for free at the circulation desk. 
 

b) Open Shelves in the First Floor

Litreture can be found on open shelves in the middle of the first-floor reading room, organized in alpahbetical order of authors' names and book titles. Materials on the following topics are sorted by call numbers: literary studies and liguistics (4,8), arts, entertainment and sports (7) and are placed on the open shelves along the walls.  Besides the librarians, also the online catalogue helps you in your orientation among the works.

Readers with a library card may borrow these materials for free.

In the second floor, you can find loanable text books organized in the ten main classes of the UDC under the call numbers 0 to 9. The fields of sciences on which you can find materials in the second floor are the followings: generalities (0), philosophy and psychology (1), religion and theology (2), social sciences (3), natural sciences (5) applied sciences (6) geography and history (9).


f) Reference Library in the Second Floor

Materials of the Reference Library (such as hard-copy databanks, bibliographies, directories, encyclopedia and dictionaries) may not removed from the library, but some items of them may be loand overnight on the special librarian's permission and for a deposit.  

Their topics cover all the disciplines. The collection is organized by the UDC.
