Small Prints&Postcards

Small prints created simoultaneously with an event, e.g. invitation cards, exhibition catalogues, leaflets, fly-bills, product information brochures, pamphlets, obituaries, posters, e.t.c., are collected by size, volume and content. Obituaries can be important sources of family search.

Small prints are stored partly in the Local and Regional History Department, partly in the store of it.

It may not be well-known how rich our collection of postcards is. It includes about 10 000 postcards. Knowing that the first postcard in Hungary was published in 1896, the one we have from 1899 is a rarity, indeed. A significant part of the collection is made up of postcards published before 1945, a good portion of which conistst of  Miskolc images. They evoke the image of the old city with its public works, statutes and distinctive parts.

The postcards are stored in chests of drawers sorted by settlements and topics.

You can find many postcards digitalized in our website. Most of them can be downloaded free.
To use small prints and postcards, please turn to the special librarian. You may have made photocopies of small prints and postcards on the same conditions as of the other parts of the collection.
